Handful of Salt Print Magazine Launch

HOS-Issue-1-Launch-Party-12

We were happy to have made it up to San Francisco this past week for Handful of Salt’s launch party celebrating the birth of their brand spankin’ new print magazine.  At a time when so many publications are foregoing print issues for digital, we’re so happy to see someone proving that print is not dead.  The perfectly square print edition is anything but square, featuring work by some of the world’s most interesting makers and creatives.  We can’t wait to see the next issue and look forward to adding this to our coffee table collection!

Another One Bites the Dust: Goodbye 944

Despite the sadly ironic “now hiring” ad on their front page, 944 announced today that they will be shutting down as of the June issue.   As Black Book reports, the magazine has been grappling with legal and financial woes for quite some time.  We’re always sad to see another magazine fold for the obvious professional reasons, but beyond that, frankly it sucks to think about all the people affected by this kind of news.  We wish the best to all the 944 staffers affected this.

California Home and Design Names a New Executive Editor

We’ve heard through the grapevine that California Home and Design has just named a new Executive Editor and that under its new leadership, we can probably expect to see some changes from the San Francisco-based magazine.  Erin Feher started at Hartle Media (now McEvoy Media) as an intern, but in four short years has earned herself a spot at the big table.  This teacup redhead packs a powerful punch in terms of verve, style, and vision, and, if our last conversation over cocktails was any indication of what’s to come, the next issue June/July issue of California Home and Design is going to take the magazine in a new and exciting direction.  Think younger demographic, edgier styling, wider accessibility, ratcheted-up coolness, and a bit more of that je ne sais quoi that we loved in Domino.

We can’t wait to see it.  And we’d like to wish a warm congrats to the fabulous Erin Feher!

Take one last look at the California Home and Design of yore.  February and March 2011 covers below.
